Valencell Sees Second Consecutive Year of Triple Digit Growth
Company continues to see global demand for highly accurate biometric sensor technology with significant growth in hearables and wrist wearables
Raleigh, N.C. – December 7, 2015 -- Valencell, a leader in biometric data sensor technology, today announced that it has seen another record year of growth in its PerformTek biometric sensor technology in 2015 with a 133 percent increase in licensees over 2014. With over 25 licensees to date, this is the second consecutive year that Valencell has seen triple digit growth in PerformTek license agreements. Growth was particularly robust for wrist wearables, including Caeden’s Sona Connected Bracelet and the Atlas Wristband, both of which launched this year. The Company also reported numerous licensees have new hearables and other form-factors currently in development that will launch in 2016.
Additionally, the Company recently announced that it has seen 70 percent growth in granted patents in 2015, with 12 new patents added in 2015, and dozens of additional patents pending.
Valencell’s PerformTek biometric sensor technology is fueling many of the latest wearable products in the market today, as the Company continues to expand its leadership in the exploding wearables market. The wearables market recently recorded its tenth consecutive quarter of steady growth. According to IDC, vendors shipped a total of 21 million wearables in the third quarter of 2015 alone – a 197.6 percent increase from the 7.1 million wearables shipped in the same quarter last year.
“We are seeing a clear shift in the market regarding the accuracy of biometric wearables,” said Dr. Steven LeBoeuf, president of Valencell. “It seems in years past, wearable device brands added what they hoped were ‘good enough’ biometrics to their wearables, particularly at the wrist. However, now many are recognizing that positive user experiences require highly accurate biometrics that can support a roadmap of new capabilities. This is driving a new phase of demand for Valencell’s technology.”
Valencell’s PerformTek sensor technology continuously measures more real-time biometric data than other fitness sensors, with a high degree of accuracy and form-factor flexibility. This data includes VO2, resting heart rate, heart rate recovery, heart rate response, cardiac efficiency and heart rate variability. The accuracy of Valencell’s technology is what makes it stand out from other options, and enables the data to be applicable to important health and fitness assessments. This data is validated in the Valencell Biometrics Lab, which works with the Company’s existing and new license partners looking to develop and validate biometric wearable products. In 2015 alone, the Valencell Biometrics Lab conducted more than 24,000 device tests, with more than 500 million biometric data points analyzed.
Valencell’s PerformTek technology is the choice of leading brands, including Intel, LG and Jabra, and Scosche among numerous others. PerformTek is the only technology available that continuously measures heart rate, VO2, calories burned, and cadence with unmatched, scientifically-validated accuracy. Valencell develops performance biometric sensor technology and licenses this patent-protected technology to consumer electronics manufacturers, mobile device and accessory makers, sports and fitness brands and gaming companies for integration into their products. Valencell’s PerformTek-powered sensors are the most accurate wearable biometric sensors that continuously measure heart rate, activity, and other critical biometrics. Valencell has invested years into the research and development of its PerformTek sensor technology, protected by dozens of granted patents and independently validated by the Duke Center for Living, North Carolina State University, the Human Performance Laboratory and a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
